Eye Care For You

About Dr. Shibata

An elderly man wearing glasses and a light-colored, patterned shirt, smiling and adorned with a garland of orange flowers with red accents and a red ribbon, set against a teal background.

For over 40 years, Dr. Vernon Shibata has been a trusted presence in the lives of his patients — not just as an optometrist, but as a partner in their long-term health and wellbeing. Born and raised in Honolulu, Dr. Shibata has built his practice on a simple belief: that every patient deserves thorough, unhurried, and genuinely compassionate care.

After earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, a masters degree from UC Irvine, and completing his Doctorate of Optometry at Southern California College of Optometry, Dr. Shibata returned to Hawaii to root his career with his ohana and community. Always staying at the forefront of optometric medicine — Dr. Shibata brings the latest advances in diagnostics and treatment to a practice that still feels personal and warm.

He specializes in the diagnosis and management of conditions like dry eyes, macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, corneal disease, and cataracts, and takes pride in helping patients understand their eye health in a way that's clear, honest, and empowering.

When he's not caring for patients, Dr. Shibata enjoys football and spending time with his grandchildren — a reflection of the same dedication he brings to every exam room visit.

Dr. Shibata is always welcoming new patients and looks forward to getting to know you.
